- Every project has change – if you can control it, limit growth to
desired items, and identify where contractors and others are going off
in the wrong direction, ………you win!
- Simple as that !
- Don’t get me wrong, it’s hard work, but if you use PM to manage change
you will succeed !

- Control costs, control schedule, and deal with the little bumps in the
road that occur each day. He
wants you to manage the job and keep him out of it…..
- Unless things turn bad….then you better have the answers!

- You’ve heard about these fancy “management” systems – you know you need
something but they worry you because you don’t know how much they cost
or how to operate them.

- You’ve got people keeping track of things…creating spreadsheets and
issuing reports – they cost real money and the information is often all
over the place – never available when you really need it!
- PM keeps all your data in one place with minimal labor costs. You have
control over your information and reports – day or night.
- At the end of the job you have complete records that tell you why the
job grew $1.2M

- For Example:
- Keep track of changes of things like purchase orders, equipment rentals,
unexpected one time costs, etc. with the VN form
- Use the FCR form to manage a task oriented project ~ each FCR is a task
with completion signatures and QA authorizations
- Use the NCR form to capture the impacts of growth in quantities ~ new
drawings increase the quantity of concrete, or a new revision to
drawings causes an increase in design hours

- At the end of the project, if you can identify why the project grew by
$1.2M and you’ve kept your Boss involved throughout the project, you may
survive!
- Presenting him with an increase of $1.2M at the end of a project without
supporting details is a sure method to ensure you don’t survive!
